Keynote Speaker: Rob Berschinsk

We are super excited about our keynote speaker: Rob Berschinski, who is senior vice president for policy with Human Rights First. A former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Labor and Human Rights in the Obama administration, Mr. Berschinski also served as deputy director of the U.S. Mission to the UN, reporting to Samantha Power, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN. To learn more about the incredible public service and career of Rob Berschinski, see his biography at Human Rights First and Wikipedia.

Networking 4-6pm.

At our UN Day celebration, you can network with like-minded people from all walks of life: students, professors, activists, community organizers, lawyers, health professionals, and just people who want to learn more about the UN and work of the UNA. This year we are inviting national and local non-governmental, community-based, and other organizations focused on solving our community’s and world’s most pressing problems, those defined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals to showcase their work from 4-6pm. Come learn what our and other groups are doing to address climate change, end poverty, improve public health, ensure equal rights, and, promote democracy and human rights.

The following organizations and companies will be hosting tables for you learn more about their work: Brooklyn Community Services; Girls on the Run; HABNET; Luz Maria Foundation; Making The Impossible Possible (MIPO); New York Life; Tau Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Resilient young minds; and the U.S. Census.

In an era in which democracy and human rights are backsliding in many countries, including challenges to established norms right here at home, let UN Day 2019 remind us about the best of America. As the leading nation behind founding the UN, and soon thereafter, under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt, drafting and signing the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the U.S. must continue to support the world body and its missions of peace, economic justice, environmental sustainability, democracy and human rights. The UNA is the leading organization in the U.S., rallying our citizens to support the UN in this important work.

If you’re not already a member of the UNA, please considering joining UNA now.
