Commission on the Status of Women and International Women's Day Are Coming. Ready?
by Sabrina Stein
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the main global body dedicated exclusively to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women, meets every year in New York City, scheduled around International Women’s Day on 8 March, to discuss women’s rights and shape the global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. This year, from 9 to 20 March, CSW59 will be taking place at the United Nations Headquarters, focusing on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration, the key global policy document on gender equality, 20 years after its adoption in 1995.
CSW brings to New York City the most committed activists championing women’s rights and gender equality from around the world. The opportunity to learn from and engage with this amazing group of people during their stay in New York is not limited to those taking part in the formal discussions at the UN, as there are numerous events organized during this time for the wider New York audience.
Below, we are sharing a list of events for International Women’s Day and CSW open to the public that would be of interest to the UNA community (a full list of events can be found by clinking here):
