With Eleanor Roosevelt representing the United States on the drafting committee, the UDHR was adopted on this day in 1948. December 10 now commemorates that breakthrough event as Human Rights Day.

Sixty-four years ago on 10 December 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first global expression to protect the rights of everyone worldwide.
